The World Association of
Industrial and Technological Research Organizations based in Kuala
Lumpur, Malaysia is an independent, non-governmental and not-for-profit
association established in 1970 to promote and encourage cooperation among
research and technological organizations. It was founded under the
auspices of the United Nations system and has consultative status with many of
its specialized agencies. World Association of
Industrial and Technological Research Organization currently has 160 members in 80 countries and
cooperated with over 500 other institutions and international agencies
worldwide.
The Raw Materials Research
and Development Council is World Association of
Industrial and Technological Research Organization Regional Focal Point (RFP) for
Africa with effect from January 2013.
Membership Of World Association Of Industrial And Technological
Research Organizations
World Association of
Industrial and Technological Research Organization membership embraces a
wide diversity of organizations which are active in carrying out or promoting
industrial research and technology. The constitution of World Association of
Industrial and Technological Research Organization recognizes three
types of membership:
i. Technical
membership
Organizations that are
actively engaged in industrial and technological research and development.
ii. Sustaining
membership
Organizations that is active
in encouraging and promoting technological research and assisting the
association with financial support or by otherwise advancing its aims.
iii. Sustaining
(company) membership
Profit-making companies from
industry to promote strong linkages with industry and whose purposes are not
research and development. This membership is open to companies with an annual
subscription of US$2,500.

World Association of
Industrial and Technological Research Organization offers its members
opportunities for international project cooperation, training and information.
It undertakes the following:
i. Presentation of
project ideas: World Association of
Industrial and Technological Research Organization assists its members in formulating project ideas in a form
acceptable to international funding agencies;
ii. Training and exchange of
know-how: Through its extensive membership network, World Association of
Industrial and Technological Research Organization is able to assist in
finding appropriate training opportunities and arranging effective exchange
programmes for experts in research institutions;

Identification of sources of funds: World Association of
Industrial and Technological Research Organization advises members on agencies to
approach for financial support. World Association of
Industrial and Technological Research Organization directory of Sources of Funds for
International R&D Cooperation provides profiles of major funding agencies
for technological activities especially with interest in developing countries.

Fund: Established by the UNFCCC to assist developing countries that are
vulnerable to adverse effects of climate change.

· AU
Research Grants. This is organized annually to support research project
consortia in Africa.
· Nordic
Climate Facility for developing business-related projects for challenging and
invasive climate change approaches (www.nefco.ng, www.ndf.fi).
· BMBF German-based research funding for health and
environmental preservation research projects (www.bmbf.de);
iv. Consultancy services: World Association of
Industrial and Technological Research Organization recruits top quality experts from among member organizations for
short-term assignments at very highly competitive rates;
v. International contacts: World Association of
Industrial and Technological Research Organizations maintains a comprehensive computerized database of its members and is
thus able to match specific requests with the most appropriate potential
partner. It also acts as an impartial intermediary in drawing up project
agreements, ensuring that fair-play is respected in the execution of
collaborative projects; and
vi. Current information on
new technological trends: World Association of
Industrial and Technological Research Organization Secretariat provides a central clearing house
for information on current international trends in industrial and technological
research, and a channel of information for exchange on projects and the results
of research. Similarly, members are kept informed of opportunities for
international research findings, training, consultancy and contract research
through its homepage.
